The River Spa: Nature’s Answer to Expensive Treatments

The River Spa: Nature’s Answer to Expensive Treatments

If you’ve never lived close to a river, I don’t expect you to know. Those of us who live close to the beautiful Medina or Guadalupe River have no need to go and pay hundreds of dollars to faux spas.

We simply set our low-rider chairs in the shallow water and let the current wash over our legs. Nearby a makeshift table holds our bags with a book, some SPF, Chapstick, a Koozie and plenty of snacks- both sweet and salty, while stacked rocks create the perfect foot stool.

Our ice chest is full of our favorite beverages and plenty of cut-up fruit for staying hydrated. Ah, the smell and taste of fresh watermelon on a warm sunny day! No need to go wash up or put seeds in a trash bin- the river is your friend.

Theres the sound of rushing water from a nearby rapid and birds chirping their happy song, along with mood-setting beats coming from our smart speaker.

We can see a canopy of huge Cypress trees, and we watch an egret gliding gracefully along the current, while sunfish and bass dart through water – clear enough to see nearly 10 feet deep.

You may spend your time there reading quietly or laying on a float; you may talk and laugh with friends, or enjoy finding colorful stones and shells; you may decide to walk along the bank discovering an array of wildflowers, or just lay back your head on the reclined lawn chair and take it all in.

This, my friend, is a River Spa!
